Holotype (unique): MNHN 1927-0285. Type catalog: Bauchot 1967:38 [ref. 20734], Bauchot et al. 1991:47 [ref. 19958]. A second specimen described and figured in Chabanaud 1928:280-285 [ref. 17982]. •Valid as Microdesmus aethiopicus (Chabanaud 1927) -- (Dawson 1990:960 [ref. 17542], Harrison et al. 2007:545 [ref. 30083], Schliewen 2011:219 [ref. 31738], Thacker in Carpenter & De Angelis 2016:2845 [ref. 34618], Skelton 2019:228 [ref. 36564], Parenti 2021:383 [ref. 38603], Fermon et al. 2022:225 [ref. 39448]). Current status: Valid as Microdesmus aethiopicus (Chabanaud 1927). Gobiidae: Microdesminae. Distribution: Eastern Atlantic: Cameroon south to northern Angola, including Bioko (Equatorial Guinea). Habitat: brackish, marine.
