Type catalog: Bertin 1948:9 [ref. 19577]. Date apparently 1818, seen as 1816 and 1817. •Valid as Chalceus macrolepidotus Cuvier 1818 -- (Ortega & Vari 1986:7 [ref. 9708], Géry et al. 1991:43 [ref. 21021], Planquette et al. 1996:230 [ref. 22818], Lima in Reis et al. 2003:121 [ref. 27061], Zanata & Toledo-Piza 2004:108 [ref. 27480], Mirande 2010:474 [ref. 31006], Sarmiento et al. 2014:184 [ref. 35004], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:65 [ref. 35633], Silvano et al. 2020:73 [ref. 38133], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:20 [ref. 39298], Borstein et al. 2022:16 [ref. 39507], Taphorn et al. 2022:13 [ref. 41297]). Distribution: South America: Negro and Orinoco River basins, and coastal rivers of northern South America (Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela). Habitat: freshwater.
