T.] 1921:417 [Annals and Magazine of Natural History (Series 9) v. 7 (no. 41); ref. 3672] 15-20 miles off Umvoti River, KwaZulu- Natal, South Africa, southwestern Indian Ocean, depth 120-130 fathoms. Holotype (unique): BMNH 1921.3.1.22. •Valid as Hoplobrotula gnathopus (Regan 1921) -- (Nielsen & Cohen 1986:348 [ref. 5700], Machida 1990:209 [ref. 19206], Nielsen & Cohen in Nielsen et al. 1999:69 [ref. 24448], Nielsen & Uiblein 2022:247 [ref. 39706]). Current status: Valid as Hoplobrotula gnathopus (Regan 1921). Ophidiidae: Neobythitinae. Distribution: Western Indian Ocean: Agulhas Bank (South Africa) north to southern Mozambique. Habitat: marine.
