Holotype (unique): MNHN 1886-0552. •Valid as Parabassogigas crassus (Vaillant 1888) -- (Nielsen 1973:552 [ref. 6885]). •Synonym of Spectrunculus grandis (Günther 1877) -- (Nielsen & Hureau 1980:162 [ref. 5585], Nielsen in Whitehead et al. 1986:1165 [ref. 13677], Nielsen 1990:573 [ref. 16246], Nielsen 1999:336 [ref. 24424], Nielsen & Cohen in Nielsen et al. 1999:90 [ref. 24448]). •Valid as Spectrunculus crassus (Vaillant 1888) -- (Uiblein et al. 2008:547 [ref. 29800], Nielsen & Møller 2011:785 [ref. 31147], Carneiro et al. 2019:159 [ref. 37250], Love et al. 2021:84 [ref. 39279], Page et al. 2023:110 [ref. 40505], Uiblein et al. 2023:470 [ref. 40580]). Current status: Valid as Spectrunculus crassus (Vaillant 1888). Ophidiidae: Neobythitinae. Distribution: Northeastern Atlantic and eastern Pacific: British Columbia (Canada) south to Peru. Habitat: marine.
