punctatus, Scomber Forster [J. R.] in Bloch & Schneider 1801:37 [M. E. Blochii, Systema Ichthyologiae; ref. 471] Near New Zealand. Syntypes: BMNH 1869.2.23.42-44 (3). Based on description in manuscript by Forster (Johann Reinhold Forster, 1729-1798, German explorer and naturalist of Cook's second voyage). McDowall 1976:490 [ref. 32873] dates to Forster 1792 as a nomen nudum; not equal to punctatus Forster 1801. •Valid as Seriolella punctata (Forster 1801) -- (Haedrich 1967:72 [ref. 5357], Stehmann & Lenz 1973:182 [ref. 21561], Pequeño 1989:67 [ref. 14125], Paulin et al. 1989:235 [ref. 24556], Nakamura in Amaoka et al. 1990:318 [ref. 16024], Gomon et al. 1994:837 [ref. 22532], Bruce et al. 2001:631 [ref. 25554], Hoese & Bray 2006:17921 [ref. 29000], Gomon 2008:799 [ref. 30616], Duffy & Ahyong 2015:119 [ref. 36167], Stewart et al. 2015:1659 [ref. 34306]). Current status: Valid as Seriolella punctata (Forster 1801). Centrolophidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic, South Pacific and subantarctic islands. Habitat: marine.
