Current status: Valid as Pontinus nematophthalmus (Günther 1860). Scorpaenidae: Scorpaeninae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: Florida (U.S.A.) south to northeastern Brazil, including southern Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. IUCN (2015): Least Concern. Habitat: marine.
