Paratypes: USNM 99008 (2). •Probably a synonym of Pontinus hexanema (Günther 1880) -- (Eschmeyer 1983:1 [ref. 8231]). •Valid as Pontinus tentacularis (Fowler 1938) -- (Kanayama in Okamura et al. 1982:273, 393 [ref. 8256], Yatou in Okamura et al. 1985:569, 718 [ref. 8056], Fricke 1999:157 [ref. 24106], Fricke et al. 2009:39 [ref. 30213]). Current status: Valid as Pontinus tentacularis (Fowler 1938). Scorpaenidae: Scorpaeninae. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: western Mascarenes east to Philippines and Kyushu-Palau Ridge. Habitat: marine.
