F.] 1904:2, Pl. 20 [Marine Investigations in South Africa v. 3; ref. 1646] 2.5 miles off Umhlanga River mouth, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, southwestern Indian Ocean, depth 22-26 fathoms. Syntypes: (3) SAM 11855 (3). Other material (same data as syntypes): BMNH 1903.12.31.6 (1) (lectotype of Matsunuma & Motomura 2021), 1930.1.14.3 (1) Lectotype selected by Matsunuma & Motomura 2021:[23] [ref. 38848] as BMNH 1903.12.31.6 (1) (but specimen did not belong to syntype series, which only included the 3 specimens of SAM 11855). •Synonym of Parapterois heterura (Bleeker 1856) -- (Eschmeyer 1986:466 [ref. 5652] as heterurus, Motomura 2004:4 [ref. 27693], Matsunuma et al. 2013:52 [ref. 33131]). •Valid as Parapterois nigripinnis (Gilchrist 1904) -- (Matsunuma & Motomura 2021:[22] [ref. 38848]). Current status: Valid as Parapterois nigripinnis (Gilchrist 1904). Scorpaenidae: Pteroinae. Distribution: Western Indian Ocean: Mozambique south to KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa). Habitat: marine.
