Light, western coast of Luzon Island, Philippines, 16°30'36"N, 120°11'06"E, Albatross station D.5542, depth 45 fathoms. Holotype (unique): USNM 98886. •Synonym of Brachypterois serrulata (Richardson 1846) -- (Kanayama & Amaoka 1981:181 [ref. 5584] as serrulatus, Dor 1984:85 [ref. 29757], Allen et al. 2006:877 [ref. 29000]). •Valid as Brachypterois serrulifer (Fowler 1936) -- (Matsunuma et al. 2013:426 [ref. 32811], Psomadakis et al. 2015:183 [ref. 34104], Fricke et al. 2018:129 [ref. 35805], Golani & Fricke 2018:52 [ref. 36273], Eagderi et al. 2019:127 [ref. 37020], Psomadakis et al. 2020:358 [ref. 37272], Gloerfelt-Tarp & Kailola 2022:113 [ref. 41223], Moazzam & Osmany 2023:296 [ref. 40698], Allen & Erdmann 2024:235 [ref. 40796]). Current status: Valid as Brachypterois serrulifer Fowler 1938. Scorpaenidae: Pteroinae. Distribution: Southern Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: Madagascar, Oman, Persian Gulf and Pakistan east to Philippines, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia. Habitat: marine.
