Holotype: USNM 98883. Paratypes: (a series) USNM 98985-88 (1, 2, 1, 2). •Valid as Sebastapistes amplisquamiceps (Fowler 1938) -- (Mohsin & Ambak 1996:574 [ref. 27969]). •Valid as Neomerinthe amplisquamiceps (Fowler 1938) -- (Paxton et al. 1989:444 [ref. 12442], Poss & Duhamel 1991:101 [ref. 15728], Poss 1999:2322 [ref. 24796], Poss in Randall & Lim 2000:605 [ref. 25122], Hutchins 2001:27 [ref. 25847], Zajonz & Klausewitz 2002:1485 [ref. 26817], Allen et al. 2006:882 [ref. 29066], Motomura et al. 2011:60 [ref. 31308], Larson et al. 2013:81 [ref. 32988]).
