Syntypes: BMNH 1890.11.15.54-55 (?) from Eigenmann, CAS pre-1906 nos. 993 (1), 402 (1), 403 (1), 404 (1), plus 3 others (apparently all lost in 1906). CAS specimens could have been lost in the fire in 1906. •Valid as Sebastes serranoides (Eigenmann & Eigenmann 1890) -- (Eschmeyer & Herald 1983:161 [ref. 9277], Orr et al. 2000:29 [ref. 24942], Shytko 2001:72 [ref. 26410], Love et al. 2002:263 [ref. 26216], Nelson et al. 2004:116 [ref. 27807], Love et al. 2005:80 [ref. 37547], Butler et al. 2012:28 [ref. 40735], Page et al. 2013:119 [ref. 32708], Kells et al. 2016:150 [ref. 35888], Burton & Lea 2019:62 [ref. 37205], Love et al. 2021:112 [ref. 39279], Page et al. 2023:181 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Sebastes serranoides (Eigenmann & Eigenmann 1890). Scorpaenidae: Sebastinae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: southern Oregon (U.S.A.) south to Pacific coast of central Baja California (Mexico). Habitat: marine.
