barbiger, Peristedium Garman [S.] 1899:110 [Memoirs of the Museum of Comparative Zoology v. 24; ref. 1540] Gulf of Panama, 7°26'10"N, 79°53'50"W, Albatross station 3390, depth 56 fathoms. Lectotype: MCZ 28078. Paralectotypes: MCZ 28707 (3), USNM 153601 [ex MCZ 28707] (1). Original genus should have been Peristedion. Lectotype selected by Tenda & Kawai 2012:139 [ref. 32374]. •Valid as Peristedion barbiger Garman 1899 -- (Bussing & López S. 1994:70 [ref. 23101], Richards & McCosker 1998:941 [ref. 23599], Chirichigno F. & Vélez D. 1998:263 [ref. 24555], Kawai 2008:24 [ref. 29787], Bussing 2010:1149 [ref. 31065], Tenda & Kawai 2012:135 [ref. 32374], Robertson et al. 2017:81 [ref. 35676], Grove et al. 2022:21 [ref. 41326], Siccha-Ramirez et al. 2023:381 [ref. 40816]). Current status: Valid as Peristedion barbiger Garman 1899. Triglidae: Peristediinae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Costa Rica south to northern Peru, including Galapagos Islands (Ecuador). Habitat: marine.
