Holotype (unique): RMNH 5882 (largest of 2). •Valid as Ablabys macracanthus (Bleeker 1852) -- (Poss 1999:2308 [ref. 24796], Poss in Randall & Lim 2000:604 [ref. 25122], Mandrytsa 2001:278 [ref. 25636], Allen & Adrim 2003:29 [ref. 26830], Randall & Spreinat 2004:48 [ref. 27610], Prokofiev 2008:302 [ref. 29592], Allen & Erdmann 2012:246 [ref. 31980], Fricke et al. 2014:55 [ref. 33932], Chungthanawong & Motomura 2018:127 [ref. 36252], Fricke et al. 2019:104 [ref. 36673], Psomadakis et al. 2020:363 [ref. 37272], Poss 2022:551 [ref. 39726], Murugan et al. 2023:[2] [ref. 40205]). Current status: Valid as Ablabys macracanthus (Bleeker 1852). Synanceiidae: Tetraroginae. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: Maldives, southeastern India, Myanmar and Andaman Islands (India) east to New Ireland (Papua New Guinea), north to Taiwan. Habitat: marine.
