japonicus, Prionotus Bleeker [P.] 1854:398 [Natuurkundig Tijdschrift voor Nederlandsch Indië v. 6 (no. 2); ref. 13964] Nagasaki, Japan. Syntypes: (3). Subjectively invalid; secondarily preoccupied in Lepidotrigla by Dactylopterus japonicus Lacepède 1801 and Trigla japonica Shaw 1803. Apparently a new name is needed for this species since all three names are considered congeneric or the two older names need to be suppressed. •Valid as Lepidotrigla japonica (Bleeker 1854) -- (Ochiai & Yatou in Masuda et al. 1984:333 [ref. 6441], Lindberg & Krasyukova 1987:100 [ref. 15964], Mohsin & Ambak 1996:579 [ref. 27969], Chen et al. 1997:170 [ref. 26476] dated 1857, Richards 1999:2362 [ref. 24797], Nakabo 2000:607 [ref. 25086], Richards in Randall & Lim 2000:607 [ref. 25122], Lee 2000:5 [ref. 25174], Hutchins 2001:28 [ref. 25847] as cf. japonica, Shinohara et al. 2001:315 [ref. 25995], Choi et al. 2003:253, 567 [ref. 26218], Shinohara et al. 2005:426 [ref. 28370], Gomon & Kawai 2018:627 [ref. 36285] as cf. japonica, Imamura in Kimura et al. 2018:84 [ref. 36460], Sonoyama et al. 2020:48 [ref. 37637], Prokofiev & Yato 2020:384 [ref. 37898]). 2°Homonym.
