Syntypes: USNM 15148 (1) Florida. Current status: Valid as Prionotus scitulus Jordan & Gilbert 1882. Triglidae: Prionotinae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: Virginia (U.S.A.) and Bermuda south to Florida (U.S.A.) and Bahamas south to southern Argentina, including northern, western and southern Gulf of Mexico, to northern Quintana Roo (Mexico). IUCN (2015): Least Concern. Habitat: marine.
