Holotype (unique): LACM 21723 [ex AHF 12]. •Valid as Apterichtus equatorialis (Myers & Wade 1941) -- (McCosker 1977:66 [ref. 6836], Machida & Ohta 1994:3 [ref. 21444], Allen & Robertson 1994:51 [ref. 22193], McCosker & Rosenblatt in Fischer et al. 1995:1332 [ref. 22830], Allen & Robertson 1997:820 [ref. 41086], Grove & Lavenberg 1997:168 [ref. 24023], Nelson et al. 2004:62 [ref. 27807], McCosker & Rosenblatt 2010:188 [ref. 30957], Page et al. 2013:62 [ref. 32708], McCosker & Hibino 2015:60 [ref. 33725], Galván-Villa et al. 2016:144 [ref. 34871], Grove et al. 2022:16 [ref. 41326], Fricke et al. 2024:120 [ref. 41622]). Current status: Valid as Apterichtus equatorialis (Myers & Wade 1941). Ophichthidae: Ophichthinae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: southern Gulf of California (Mexico) south to Colombia, including Clipperton Island (France) and Galapagos Islands (Ecuador). IUCN (2010): Least Concern. Habitat: marine.
