Based on "Charax maxilla superiore longiore obtusa ..." of Gronow 1763:123 (no. 379) [ref. 1910], which is based on "Cvrimata Brasiliensibus" of Markgraf von Liebstadt 1648:156 [ref. 30347]. •Valid as Curimata cyprinoides (Linnaeus 1766) -- (Vari 1989:37 [ref. 13506], Géry et al. 1991:31 [ref. 21021], Vari & Reis 1995:303 [ref. 21943], Planquette et al. 1996:116 [ref. 22818], Gaye-Siessegger & Fricke 1998:6 [ref. 23755], Vari in Reis et al. 2003:52 [ref. 27061], Melo et al. 2016:132 [ref. 34701], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:41 [ref. 35633], Koerber et al. 2022:24 [ref. 39235], Taphorn et al. 2022:22 [ref. 41297]). Current status: Valid as Curimata cyprinoides (Linnaeus 1766). Curimatidae. Distribution: Widespread in South America: Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela. Habitat: freshwater.
