Syntypes (?): BMNH 1863.10.9.58 (1). Any types at CAS would have been lost in 1906. It is not clear from Ayres (1859) whether he based the description of A. merlangus on more than one specimen, so the surviving type cannot be assumed to be a holotype. •Synonym of Anoplopoma fimbria (Pallas 1814) -- (Lindberg & Krasyukova 1987:135 [ref. 15964], Mecklenburg 2003:2 [ref. 27291]). Current status: Synonym of Anoplopoma fimbria (Pallas 1814). Anoplopomatidae. Habitat: marine.
