madagascariensis, Cottus Lacepède [B. G. E.] (ex Commerson) 1801:231, 248, Pl. 11 (figs. 1, 2) [Histoire naturelle des poissons (Lacepède) v. 3; ref. 2710] Fort Dauphin, Madagascar. Originally appeared as Cottus madagascariensis on p. 231, but with vernacular name only on p. 248 and in Pl. 11. Based on description and illustration in manuscript by Commerson (Philibert Commerson, 1727-1773, French explorer and naturalist). Also appeared in Sonnini 1803:280, 304 (vol. 8) [ref. 30473]. •Synonym of Platycephalus indicus (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Knapp 1986:484 [ref. 5683], Kottelat 2013:318 [ref. 32989]). Current status: Synonym of Platycephalus indicus (Linnaeus 1758). Platycephalidae. Habitat: brackish, marine.
