Type catalog: Böhlke 1984:52 [ref. 13621]. The gender of Phenacogaster is feminine, therefore mandatory correction to pectinata (R. Fricke, 1 May 2016). •Valid as Phenacogaster pectinata (Cope 1870) -- (Ortega & Vari 1986:9 [ref. 9708] as pectinatus, Lucena & Menezes in Reis et al. 2003:204 [ref. 27061] as pectinatus, Lucena & Malabarba 2010:265 [ref. 30880] as pectinatus, Barriga Salazar 2014:109 [ref. 35745] as pectinatus, Sarmiento et al. 2014:185 [ref. 35004] as pectinatus, DoNascimiento et al. 2017:47 [ref. 35633], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:19 [ref. 39298], Koerber et al. 2022:40 [ref. 39235], Vieira et al. 2023:17 [ref. 40759] as cf. pectinata, Lucena 2024:252 [ref. 40817]). Current status: Valid as Phenacogaster pectinata (Cope 1870). Characidae: Characinae. Distribution: South America: Amazon River basin (Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia and Peru). Habitat: freshwater.
