kazika, Cottus Jordan [D. S.] & Starks [E. C.] 1904:265, Fig. 15 [Proceedings of the United States National Museum v. 27 (no. 1358); ref. 2528] Niigata, Japan. Holotype: CAS-SU 7705. Paratypes: USNM 50918 (1), 57795 (2). Non-types: ?BMNH 1905.2.4.397 (1), CAS-SU 7578 (5). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:128 [ref. 12291]. The species epithet was spelled kazika in three places, but in the derivation it is stated, "(kajika, the Japanese name of river sculpins.)". •Valid as Cottus kazika Jordan & Starks 1904 -- (Watanabe 1960:117 [ref. 11959] as kajika, Okada 1961:696 [ref. 6363], Yabe in Masuda et al. 1984:326 [ref. 6441], Kawanabe & Mizuno 1989:655 [ref. 25598], Takahashi et al. 1997:45 [ref. 24971], Sato et al. 1998:39 [ref. 24972], Nakabo 2000:637 [ref. 25086], Matsuura et al. 2000:203 [ref. 26000], Nakabo 2002:637 [ref. 26001], Fujii et al. 2005:12 [ref. 28191], Goto et al. 2014:[9] [ref. 33456]). •Valid as Rheopresbe kazika (Jordan & Starks 1904) -- (Goto et al. 2019:[7] [ref. 37068]). Current status: Valid as Rheopresbe kazika (Jordan & Starks 1904). Cottidae. Distribution: Rivers from Aomori Prefecture to the western part of Yamaguchi Prefecture, Sea of Japan, Ibaraki Prefecture to the eastern part of Yamaguchi Prefecture, Pacific, and Shikoku Island and northern part of Kyushu Island, Japan. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
