Syntypes: MCZ 35979 [ex USNM 3175] (1), USNM 3175 (8, poor condition). •Synonym of Myoxocephalus quadricornis (Linnaeus 1758), but a valid subspecies -- (Scott & Crossman 1998:843 [ref. 24570], Goto et al. 2014: [6] [ref. 33456]). •Valid as Myoxocephalus thompsonii (Girard 1851) -- (Lee et al. 1980:827 [ref. 22416], Smith 1986:359 [ref. 22186], McAllister 1990:200 [ref. 14674] as thompsoni, Page & Burr 1991:244 [ref. 18983] as thompsoni, Bailey et al. 2004:173 [ref. 27882], Nelson et al. 2004:121 [ref. 27807], Murray et al. 2004:642 [ref. 27932], Scharpf 2008:11 [ref. 30399], Page & Burr 2011:467 [ref. 31215], Page et al. 2013:124 [ref. 32708]). Current status: Valid as Myoxocephalus thompsonii (Girard 1851). Cottidae. Distribution: Canada and New York (U.S.A.). Habitat: freshwater.
