Paratypes: CAS 20677 [ex IU 11479] (1), USNM 306564 [ex USNM 34454] (2). Type catalog: Vari & Howe 1991:36 [ref. 19022]. •Valid as Gasteropelecus levis (Eigenmann 1909) -- (Weitzman 1960:225 [ref. 9611], Weitzman & Palmer in Reis et al. 2003:102 [ref. 27061], Chuctaya et al. 2022:28 [ref. 42137]). Current status: Valid as Gasteropelecus levis (Eigenmann 1909). Gasteropelecidae. Distribution: South America: Amazon River basin (Brazil, Peru). IUCN (2022): Least Concern. Habitat: freshwater.
