Yu.] 1904:158, Fig. 10 [Fishes of the eastern seas of the Russian Empire; ref. 3946] Shantar Islands: Maliy Shantar Island between Cape Mukhtel and Abrek Bay, northwestern Okhotsk Sea, Russia, depth 105feet [15 Russian fathoms]. Holotype (unique): ZIN 12956. Type catalog: Voskoboinikova & Orlovskaya 2020:19 [ref. 38114]. Later spelled brashnikovi in literature; occasionally misspelled braschnikowi, brashinikowi, brashnicowi, and brashnikovi by authors. Perhaps the senior synonym of C. popovi -- see Mecklenburg & Sheiko 2003:4 [ref. 27295]. •Valid as Cyclopterocottus brashnikowi (Schmidt 1904) -- (Lindberg & Legeza 1955:445 [ref. 2785]). •Valid as Cyclopteropsis brashnikowi (Schmidt 1904) -- (Ueno 1970:116 [ref. 26199] as brashinikowi, Parin et al. 2002:S105 [ref. 28300], Mecklenburg & Sheiko 2003:4 [ref. 27295], Fedorov et al. 2003:93 [ref. 27579], Parin et al. 2014:306 [ref. 33547], Voskoboinikova 2015:222 [ref. 33934] as brashnikovi). •Valid as Eumicrotremus brashnikowi Schmidt 1904 -- (Oku et al. 2017:55 [ref. 35060], Voskoboinikova 2018:275 [ref. 36095], Voskoboinikova 2018:443 [ref. 36096], Voskoboinikova & Orlovskaya 2020:19 [ref. 38114]). Current status: Valid as Eumicrotremus brashnikowi Schmidt 1904. Cyclopteridae: Eumicrotreminae. Distribution: Northwestern Pacific: Okhotsk Sea to Pacific off Kuril Islands Previously known only from the holotype, recently found to be rather common off the Kuril Islands. Habitat: marine.
