Lectotype established (as figured specimen) in caption to Pl. 313, p. 3296 in Jordan & Evermann 1900 [ref. 2446] and that specimen is identifiable as USNM 53806, a specimen not mentioned by number in the original description (presumably since it was collected before 1890 and not treated in this work); it is from station 2844 and not sta. 3223 (C.W. Mecklenburg, pers. comm., Nov. 1998).
