Current status: Valid as Awaous jayakari (Boulenger 1888). Oxudercidae: Gobionellinae. Distribution: Northwestern Indian Ocean: southern Yemen and Gulf of Oman east to Iran. Possibly introduced in Pakistan. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
