Syntypes: MNHN A-1886 [ex MNHN 1875-0193] (1). Type catalog: Bauchot et al. 1991:22 and 40 [ref. 19958] as holotype, but types are same as Eleotris obscura and available specimen is a syntype. On p. 2 of separate. Replacement name for Gobius obscurus [= Eleotris obscura] Castelnau 1873, preoccupied by Gobius obscurus Peters 1855. •Valid as Afurcagobius suppositus (Sauvage 1880) -- (Gill 1993:198 [ref. 21981], Morgan et al. 1998:39 [ref. 24611], Hutchins 2001:42 [ref. 25847], Allen et al. 2002:276 [ref. 25930], Hoese & Larson 2006:1617 [ref. 29097] with a holotype, Hoese & Larson 2008:751 [ref. 30660], Hoese & Hammer 2021:109 [ref. 38350], Parenti 2021:82 [ref. 38603]). Replacement Name. Current status: Valid as Afurcagobius suppositus (Sauvage 1880). Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Distribution: Australia: Western Australia. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
