Holotype (unique): NMW 76985. Appeared first in the abstract as above, then in Steindachner 1866:451 [ref. 4210]; also on p. 28 of separate. Correct original spelling was kreftii (unused since 1919), but krefftii has become the correct spelling by prevailing usage (Art. 3.3.1). •Valid as Bathygobius kreffti (Steindachner 1866) -- (Kuiter 1993:347 [ref. 23929], Gomon et al. 1994:785 [ref. 22532], Johnson 1999:748 [ref. 25471], Larson & Murdy 2001:3595 [ref. 26293], Hoese & Larson 2006:1628 [ref. 29097] as kreftii, Hoese & Larson 2008:754 [ref. 30660], Larson 2011:237 [ref. 31740], Parenti 2021:102 [ref. 38603]). Current status: Valid as Bathygobius krefftii (Steindachner 1866). Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Distribution: Southeastern Indian Ocean, southwestern Pacific: Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia (Australia). Habitat: brackish, marine.
