Hamilton's original, unpublished illustration reproduced by Britz 2019:Pl. 31 [ref. 37532]. •Synonym of Glossogobius giuris (Hamilton 1822) -- (Rema Devi 1993:175 [ref. 24020], Menon 1999:294 [ref. 24904], Kottelat 2013:407 [ref. 32989], Jouladeh-Roudbar et al. 2020:232 [ref. 37983]). •Valid as Awaous gutum (Hamilton 1822) -- (Talwar & Jhingran 1991:928 [ref. 20764], Bijukumar & Sushama 2000:187 [ref. 25703], Hoese & Hammer 2021:110 [ref. 38350], Seth et al. 2023:13 [ref. 40589]). Current status: Valid as Awaous gutum (Hamilton 1822). Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Distribution: Northeastern Indian Ocean: Ganges River basin, India and Bangladesh. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
