Type catalog: Ibarra & Stewart 1987:64 [ref. 12367]. •Valid as Paratrachichthys argyrophanus Woods 1961 -- (Kotlyar 1996:192 [ref. 23292], Menezes in Menezes et al. 2003:69 [ref. 27192]). •Valid as Aulotrachichthys argyrophanus (Woods 1961) -- (Moore 2003:1187 [ref. 27002], Klautau et al. 2020:8 [ref. 37903], Pimentel et al. 2020:6 [ref. 38051], Eduardo et al. 2022:9 [ref. 39574], Matsunuma et al. 2023:[15] [ref. 40199]). Current status: Valid as Aulotrachichthys argyrophanus (Woods 1961). Trachichthyidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: offshore continental shelf north of Amazon River mouth; Fernando de Noronha Archipelago (Brazil). Young specimens have been taken to the east from continental shelf at 500-1000 miles. Habitat: marine.
