Holotype: USNM 64110. Paratypes: (29) USNM 53814-15 (2, 1), 64111 (1), 64112 [ex USNM 45363] (1); SVZM [ex USNM] (2). •Questionably a synonym of Careproctus ostentum Gilbert 1896 -- (Sheiko & Fedorov 2000:32 [ref. 25650], Chernova et al. 2004:9 [ref. 27592]). •Synonym of Careproctus ostentum Gilbert 1896 -- (Parin et al. 2002:S113 [ref. 28300]). •Valid as Careproctus gilberti Burke 1912 -- (Stein 1978:17 [ref. 4203], Anderson et al. 1979:259 [ref. 16035], McAllister 1990:209 [ref. 14674], Mecklenburg et al. 2002:625 [ref. 25968], Imamura & Nobetsu 2002:158 [ref. 26153], Nelson et al. 2004:124 [ref. 27807], Love et al. 2005:102 [ref. 37547], Page et al. 2013:127 [ref. 32708], Parin et al. 2014:320 [ref. 33547], Burton & Lea 2019:71 [ref. 37205], Orr et al. 2019:22 [ref. 38839], Love et al. 2021:136 [ref. 39279]).
