antarctica, Liparis Putnam [F. W.] 1874:339 [Proceedings of AAAS (The American Association for the Advancement of Science) v. 22; ref. 18580] Eden Harbor, Ultima, southern Chile, 49°09'S, 74°27'W. Holotype (unique): MCZ 12972 (poor condition). This is the only species of Liparis known from the southern Hemisphere. The stated type locality may be an error, and the specimen could be from California. •Valid as Liparis antarctica Putnam 1874 [should be antarcticus] -- (Stein et al. 1991:365 [ref. 19979], Pequeño 1997:83 [ref. 23536]). •Valid as Liparis antarcticus Putnam 1874 -- (Chernova et al. 2004:21 [ref. 27592], Stein 2005:17 [ref. 28392], Chernova 2008:840 [ref. 30236]). Current status: Valid as Liparis antarcticus Putnam 1874. Liparidae. Distribution: Eastern South Pacific: southern Chile; known only from the holotype. Habitat: marine.
