Distribution: Western Atlantic: Massachusetts (U.S.A.) and Bermuda south to Argentina, including Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Trinidade Island (Brazil); southern-central Atlantic: Ascension island; Mediterranean Sea; Sea of Marmara; Black Sea; eastern Atlantic: English Channel (U.K.) south to Angola, including Azores Islands, Madeira, Canary Islands, Cape Verde Islands, and São Tomé and Principe. IUCN (2015): Least concern. Habitat: brackish, marine.
