Zoology v. 12 (pt 3); ref. 3634] Maldives, Indian Ocean, depth 27-44 fathoms. Lectotype: BMNH 1901.12.31.94. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1901.12.31.95 (1), 1901.12.31.96-98 (?1 of 4). Lectotype selected by Amaoka et al. 1993:393 [ref. 22091], but Norman apparently established the lectotype by referring to the type as 1901.12.31.94 coupled with a footnote stating, "A male of 63 mm. is selected as the holotype." Five paralectotypes mentioned by Amaoka et al., but the original description was based on 3 specimens. •Valid as Engyprosopon maldivensis (Regan 1908) -- (Dor 1984:269 [ref. 29757], Amaoka et al. 1993:397 [ref. 22091], Goren & Dor 1994:71 [ref. 25356], Amaoka & Mihara 1995:56 [ref. 21622], Amaoka in Randall & Lim 2000:645 [ref. 25122], Hensley & Amaoka 2001:3832 [ref. 26311], Hutchins 2001:46 [ref. 25847], Shinohara et al. 2005:442 [ref. 28370], Hoese & Bray 2006:1819 [ref. 29000], Amaoka et al. 2008:113 [ref. 29584], Larson et al. 2013:223 [ref. 32988], Shinohara et al. 2014:274 [ref. 33330], Voronina et al. 2016:390 [ref. 35064], Fricke et al. 2018:370 [ref. 35805], Ummath et al. 2024:[6] [ref. 41632]). •Valid as Engyprosopon maldivense (Regan 1908) -- (Amaoka & Ho 2018:461 [ref. 35909], Amaoka & Ho 2019:185 [ref. 37188], Psomadakis et al. 2020:590 [ref. 37272], Gloerfelt-Tarp & Kailola 2022:283 [ref. 41223], Hensley & Amaoka 2022:337 [ref. 40220]). Current status: Valid as Engyprosopon maldivense (Regan 1908). Bothidae. Distribution: Red Sea; Indo-West Pacific: Madagascar and Maldives east to Philippines, north to southern Japan, south to northern Western Australia and Chesterfield Islands (New Caledonia). Habitat: marine.
