Holotype (unique): NMW 45601. Non-types: ZMUC 276 a-b (2) Para, Brazil. Type catalog: Nielsen 1974:50 [ref. 9588] but dated to later reference, Ferraris 2007:189 [ref. 29155] Species first described in above abstract, later illustrated and described in more detail in Steindachner 1864:213 [p. 14 of separate] Pl. 2 (figs. 3-4) [ref. 13937]. •Valid as Pimelodus altipinnis Steindachner 1864 -- (Burgess 1989:279 [ref. 12860]). •See Le Bail et al. 2000:100 [ref. 24549]. •Valid as Pimelodella altipinnis (Steindachner 1864) -- (Bockmann & Guazzelli in Reis et al. 2003:417 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:189 [ref. 29155], Sarmiento et al. 2014:191 [ref. 35004], Slobodian et al. 2017:95 [ref. 35643], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:[23] [ref. 35679], Taphorn et al. 2022:49 [ref. 41297]). Current status: Valid as Pimelodella altipinnis (Steindachner 1864). Heptapteridae: Rhamdiinae. Distribution: South America: Amazon River basin, Essequibo River basin (Bolivia and Guyana). Habitat: freshwater.
