Current status: Valid as Batrichthys apiatus (Valenciennes 1837). Batrachoididae: Halophryninae. Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic, southwestern Indian Ocean: Saldanha bay south to Cape of Good Hiope (South Africa), then east to Eastern Cape (South Africa). Habitat: brackish, marine.
