We tentatively regard this as an unneeded substitute (or an unjustified emendation) for Pimelodus caudafurcatus Lesueur 1819 contrary to other authors, because Valenciennes indicates (p. 158) that Lesueur appears to have described this species under the name Pim. caudafurcatus. If not regarded as a new name for caudafurcatus, to agree with current usage, then the primary syntype is MNHN A.9458. Authorship should be Valenciennes, citation of Lesueur after the species name perhaps further indicating a name change.
