W.] 1938:78, Fig. 34 [Proceedings of the United States National Museum v. 85 (no. 3032); ref. 1426] Vicinity of Hong Kong, China Sea, 21°33'00"N, 116°13'00"E, Albatross station D.5310, depth 100 fathoms. Holotype: USNM 98892. Paratypes: USNM 99009 (1). •Status uncertain -- (see Eschmeyer et al. 1973:305-306 [ref. 6390]). •Valid as Pteropelor noronhai Fowler 1938 -- (Chen & Liu 1984:101 [ref. 13451], Mandrytsa 2001:276 [ref. 25636], Mandrytsa 2002:567 [ref. 26272]). •Valid as Pteroidichthys noronhai (Fowler 1938) -- (Poss 1999:2306 [ref. 24796], Motomura et al. 2011:65 [ref. 31308], Fricke et al. 2015:1 [ref. 33892], Motomura & Kanade 2015:492 [ref. 34096], Poss & Motomura 2022:527 [ref. 39725]). Current status: Valid as Pteroidichthys noronhai (Fowler 1938). Scorpaenidae: Scorpaeninae. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: Saya de Malha Bank; South China Sea, Philippines and Vanuatu east to Wallis and Futuna Islands, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia. Habitat: marine.
