gongota, Cobitis Hamilton [F.] 1822:351, 394 [An account of the fishes found in the river Ganges; ref. 2031] Patgong, Northern Bengal, India. No types known. Cobitis gongota Hamilton 1822 and Cobitis cucura Hamilton 1822 are simultaneous synonyms; first reviser is Günther 1868:363 who established C. gongota as having priority -- see Kottelat 1998:118 [ref. 25861]. Current status: Valid as Canthophrys gongota (Hamilton 1822). Cobitidae. Distribution: Himalaya Foothills, Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Pakistan. Habitat: freshwater.
