graellsii, Barbus Steindachner [F.] 1866:14 [Anzeiger der Kaiserlichen Akademie der Wissenschaften, Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftlichen Classe v. 3; ref. 21709] Ebro River at Bilbao, Spain. Syntypes: (many) NMW 5295-98 (4), 5340 (1), 5359-66 (8), 54112 (1), 54139-41 (2, 1, 2), 54143-44 (1, 2), 54146 (10), 54148-51 (4, 10, 1, 2), 54152-57 (4, 2, 1, 2, 2, 5), 54159 (2), 79353 (5). Species first described in the abstract above as graelsii [this spelling twice], later described in more detail in Steindachner 1866 [ref. 14058], p. 198 [p. 1 of separate] as graellsii; also appeared in English in Steindachner 1866:311 [ref. 21711]. Also in Steindachner 1866:5 [ref. 18757] as graellsii. If the spelling graellsii has continuously been used, that spelling probably can be preserved. •Valid as Messinobarbus graellsii (Steindachner 1866) -- (Bianco 1998:134 [ref. 23811] as graellesi). •Valid as Barbus graellsii Steindachner 1866 -- (Kottelat 1997:49 [ref. 22952], Miranda & Escala 2000:197 [ref. 24798], Tsigenopoulos & Berrebi 2000:169 [ref. 25489] as graellsi, Bianco & Ketmaier 2001:194 [ref. 26728], Almaça & Bănărescu in Bănărescu & Bogutskaya 2003:227 [ref. 27353] ). •Valid as Luciobarbus graellsii (Steindachner 1866) -- (Kottelat & Freyhof 2007:139 [ref. 29996], Levin et al. 2012:544 [ref. 33912], Doadrio et al. 2016:4 [ref. 34185], Doadrio et al. 2016:5 [ref. 34978]). Current status: Valid as Luciobarbus graellsii (Steindachner 1866). Cyprinidae: Barbinae. Distribution: Spain, introduced in Italy. Habitat: freshwater.
