Species first described in the abstract above as graelsii [this spelling twice], later described in more detail in Steindachner 1866 [ref. 14058], p. 198 [p. 1 of separate] as graellsii; also appeared in English in Steindachner 1866:311 [ref. 21711]. Also in Steindachner 1866:5 [ref. 18757] as graellsii. If the spelling graellsii has continuously been used, that spelling probably can be preserved. •Valid as Messinobarbus graellsii (Steindachner 1866) -- (Bianco 1998:134 [ref. 23811] as graellesi). •Valid as Barbus graellsii Steindachner 1866 -- (Kottelat 1997:49 [ref. 22952], Miranda & Escala 2000:197 [ref. 24798], Tsigenopoulos & Berrebi 2000:169 [ref. 25489] as graellsi, Bianco & Ketmaier 2001:194 [ref. 26728], Almaça & Bănărescu in Bănărescu & Bogutskaya 2003:227 [ref. 27353] ). •Valid as Luciobarbus graellsii (Steindachner 1866) -- (Kottelat & Freyhof 2007:139 [ref. 29996], Levin et al. 2012:544 [ref. 33912], Doadrio et al. 2016:4 [ref. 34185], Doadrio et al. 2016:5 [ref. 34978], Lorenzoni et al. 2019:252 [ref. 37108], Massebouef et al. 2020:219 [ref. 38011]).
