Appeared first without distinguishing features in Gray & Richardson in Richardson 1843:226 [ref. 1885]. Lectotype selected by Hardy 1983:14 [ref. 5341]. Original genus should have been spelled Tetraodon. Current status: Valid as Tetractenos hamiltoni (Richardson 1846). Tetraodontidae. Distribution: Southwestern Pacific. Habitat: marine.
