hypselopterus, Leuciscus Günther [A.] (ex Putnam) 1868:255 [Catalogue of the fishes in the British Museum v. 7; ref. 1990] Mobile, Alabama, U.S.A. Holotype: BMNH 1974.8.6.77. Putnam specimens: Lectotype: UMMZ 162442 [ex UMMZ 87183]. Paralectotypes: MCZ 1845 (24); ?UMMZ 86863 (1), UMMZ 87183 (6), ZMB 5646 (?). Type catalog: Gilbert 1978:49 [ref. 7042] and Gilbert 1998:94 [ref. 23395] with types as for Alburnus formosus Putnam 1863. Description apparently composed by Günther on one specimen, with citation to Alburnus formosus Putnam MS; it probably should not be regarded as a replacement name for Alburnus formosus Putnam 1863 (publication of which Günther was apparently unaware); Gilbert 1978:49 [ref. 7042] treated as a replacement name. •Valid as Pteronotropis hypselopterus (Günther 1868), subspecies hypselopterus -- (Gilbert 1998:94 [ref. 23395], Scharpf 2005:36 [ref. 28940]). •Valid as Notropis hypselopterus (Günther 1868) -- (Gilbert 1978:49 [ref. 7042], Lee et al. 1980:277 [ref. 22416], Dimmick 1987:316 [ref. 11406], Suttkus & Mettee 2001:6 [ref. 25253]). •Valid as Pteronotropis hypselopterus (Günther 1868) -- (Boschung 1992:58 [ref. 23239], Mettee et al. 1996:309 [ref. 25836], Simons et al. 2000:1068 [ref. 25101], Nelson et al. 2004:77 [ref. 27807], Boschung & Mayden 2004:274 [ref. 27995], Page & Burr 2011:231 [ref. 31215], Page et al. 2013:77 [ref. 32708], Mayden & Allen 2015:[3] [ref. 34137], Mayden & Allen 2015:21 [ref. 35436], Robins et al. 2018:119 [ref. 35886], Stout et al. 2022:7 [ref. 39738], Page et al. 2023:75 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Pteronotropis hypselopterus (Günther 1868). Leuciscidae: Pogonichthyinae. Distribution: Eastern North America: Florida and Alabama (southeastern U.S.A.). Habitat: freshwater.
