Syntypes: (several) NMW 47628 [? formerly NMW 10976-77] (2). Type catalog: Ferraris 2007:59 [ref. 29155]. Species later illustrated and described in more detail in Steindachner 1882:9, Pl. 2 (figs. 2-2b) [ref. 14353]. •Valid as Dysichthys knerii (Steindachner 1882) -- (Mees 1988:90 [ref. 6401], Mees 1989:220 [ref. 13383], Burgess & Finley 1996:167 [ref. 22901] as kneri). •Valid as Bunocephalus knerii Steindachner 1882 -- (Ovchynnyk 1967:36 [ref. 37559] as kneri, Burgess 1989:303 [ref. 12860], Diogo et al. 2001:471 [ref. 25997], Friel in Reis et al. 2003:263 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:59 [ref. 29155], Cardoso 2010:612 [ref. 30972], Barriga Salazar 2014:110 [ref. 35745], Carvalho et al. 2015:510 [ref. 33972], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:84 [ref. 35633], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:24 [ref. 39298]). Current status: Valid as Bunocephalus knerii Steindachner 1882. Aspredinidae: Aspredininae. Distribution: South America: Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Habitat: freshwater.
