Spelled knysnaensis on p. 1 and on plate, Kynsnaensis on p. 2; Corrigenda for vol. III corrects p. 2 to knysnaensis and locality to Knysna. •Synonym of Serranus cabrilla (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Heemstra & Randall 1986:536 [ref. 5667]). •Valid as Serranus knysnaensis Gilchrist 1904 -- (Heemstra & Heemstra 2004:174 [ref. 28072], Carvalho-Filho & Ferreira 2013:812 [ref. 33030], Heemstra & Anderson in Carpenter & De Angelis 2016:2409 [ref. 34618], Fricke et al. 2018:158 [ref. 35805], Iwamoto & Wirtz 2018:36 [ref 36189], Parenti & Randall 2020:125 [ref. 37354], Sithole et al. 2021:102 [ref. 38788], Heemstra 2022:35 [ref. 39742]). Current status: Valid as Serranus knysnaensis Gilchrist 1904. Serranidae. Distribution: Southwestern Indian Ocean: Western Cape, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) north to Bazaruto (southern Mozambique), east to Madagascar. Habitat: marine.
