Also appeared in Rafinesque 1810:11 [ref. 3595]. •Synonym of Molva dypterygius (Pennant 1784), but a valid subspecies -- (Svetovidov 1973:314 [ref. 7169], Svetovidov in Whitehead et al. 1986:703 [ref. 13676], Arruda 1997:24 [ref. 24952] as microphtalma Pennant 1784 as author, Lipej & Dulčić 2010:30 [ref. 36649] with Svetovidov 1948 as author). •Valid as Molva macrophthalma (Rafinesque 1810) -- (Cohen 1990:529 [ref. 15766], Santos et al. 1997:62 [ref. 23531], Bilecenoğlu et al. 2002:52 [ref. 26753], Fricke et al. 2007:65 [ref. 29533], Iwamoto & Cohen 2016:2028 [ref. 34586], Bayhan et al. 2018:[2] 272 [ref. 37040], Martins & Carneiro 2018:47 [ref. 36550], Artüz & Fricke 2019:554 [ref. 36612], Carneiro et al. 2019:146 [ref. 37250], Elbaraasi et al. 2019:94 [ref. 36864], Parenti 2019:101 [ref. 37117]). Current status: Valid as Molva macrophthalma (Rafinesque 1810). Lotidae. Distribution: Mediterranean Sea; Sea of Marmara; northeastern Atlantic: Ireland south to Portugal, including Azores. Habitat: marine.
