Scorpaenichthys marmoratus Girard 1854 and Hemitripteras [sic] marmoratus Ayres 1854 were described independently at about the same date. Authorship of this species was fixed as Ayres 1854 and not Girard 1854 in Opinion 1583 in 1990. •Valid as Scorpaenichthys marmoratus Girard 1854 -- (Herrera 1896:63 [ref. 39336], Bolin 1944:6 [ref. 6379], Eschmeyer & Herald 1983:182 [ref. 9277] implied, Matarese et al. 1989:382 [ref. 26885]). •Synonym of Scorpaenichthys marmoratus (Ayres 1854). 2°Homonym.
