Subjectively invalid; secondarily preoccupied in Notropis by Cyprinus megalops Rafinesque 1817, replaced by Notropis swaini Jordan and Gilbert 1885 (but not recognized). Lectotype selected by Conway & Kim 2016:329 [ref. 34355]. •Synonym of Notropis amabilis (Girard 1856) -- (Gilbert 1978:60 [ref. 7042], Gilbert 1998:111 [ref. 23395]). •Valid as Notropis megalops (Girard 1856) -- (Conway & Kim 2016:319 [ref. 34355], Page et al. 2023:74 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Notropis megalops (Girard 1856). Leuciscidae: Pogonichthyinae. Distribution: Southern North America: Texas and northern Mexico. Habitat: freshwater.
