Available from footnote as, "Ch. nesogallicus, N., Ren., I, v, 37." Also appeared in Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1831:63 [ref. 4881]. Misspelled nasogallicus by Griffith & Smith 1834:173 [ref. 1908]. Bauchot 1963:125 [ref. 20718] lists syntypes (MNHN 9670), but they apply to the 1831 description. Neotype designation by Fricke 1999:339 [ref. 24106] is invalid. Species epithet misspelled nasogallicus by Cuvier 1831:139 [ref. 30376] with author Risso. •Synonym of Chaetodon vagabundus Linnaeus 1758 -- (Burgess 1978:587 [ref. 700], Allen 1980:161 [ref. 22764], Fricke 1999:338 [ref. 24106], Heemstra & Heemstra 2022:462 [ref. 39746]). Current status: Synonym of Chaetodon vagabundus Linnaeus 1758. Chaetodontidae: Chaetodontinae. Habitat: marine.
