Based in part of Cyprinus rufescens of Hasselquist 1757:383 [ref. 30181]. Tentatively accepted as the same species as Labeo niloticus (Forsskål 1775). •Mentioned as Cyprinus niloticus Linnaeus 1758 -- (Kottelat 2013:114 [ref. 32989]). •Valid as Labeo niloticus (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Lévêque & Daget 1984:316 [ref. 6186] with author Forsskål 1775, Reid 1985:61 [ref. 19189] with author Forsskål 1775, Lévèque et al. 1991:141 [ref. 31367] with author Forsskål 1775, Moritz 2007:55 [ref. 29304] with author Forsskål 1775, Neumann et al. 2016:304 [ref. 35036], Moritz & Neumann 2017:32 [ref. 35181]). Current status: Valid as Labeo niloticus (Linnaeus 1758). Cyprinidae: Labeoninae. Distribution: Nile River: Egypt, Sudan and Kenya. Habitat: freshwater.
