Lectotype selected by Staeck & Schindler 2003:112 [ref. 27491] as the figured specimen [formerly designated by them in 1997 as the iconotype] but with misinterpretation of Art. 76; restriction to the Essequibo R. is not justified. •Valid as Heros notatus (Jardine 1843) -- (Kullander in Reis et al. 2003:636 [ref. 27061], Staeck & Schindler 2015:133 [ref. 33952], Taphorn et al. 2022:33 [ref. 41297]). Current status: Valid as Heros notatus (Jardine 1843). Cichlidae: Cichlinae. Distribution: South America: Essequibo River drainage (Guyana). Habitat: freshwater.
